SCCFR to Carry Station 26 Designation

July 3, 2026

Southern Chester County Fire Rescue -- the new fire department being formed from the merger of the Avondale and West Grove fire companies -- will carry the designation Station 26 when the combined organization begins joint operations in 2027.

Station 26 will be the official station identifier for SCCFR as a result of the decision by the Chester County Fire Chiefs Association in consultation with the Chester County Department of Emergency Services. Station 26 was selected because:

• It is currently available within Chester County.
• It has no historical ties to either legacy organization, making it a neutral choice.
• It does not create conflicts with neighboring agencies.
• It aligns with guidance provided by county leadership.
• It remains within the traditional southern Chester County numbering series.
• It minimizes confusion by requiring only a minor transition from the current numbering structure.
• It provides long-term stability and flexibility for future growth.

The Officers believe that Station 26 is the most practical and equitable option and support the long term success of SCCFR. This is a big milestone in the formation of our new department. With this approval, we can continue moving forward with radio programming, dispatch updates, fire box changes, branding, and the many other projects that need to be completed before our transition.

West Grove 22 and Avondale 23 will continue to operate in 2026 as separate organizations until the end of 2026, while working even more closely together.
